Killin Junction

These instructions appeared in the Appendix to the Working Time Table, dated 1st May, 1915.

KILLIN JUNCTION-Crossing of Trains.-When Trains are to be crossed at Killin Junction the Down Train must be accepted by the West Box, and the Up Train by the East Box, under the "Section Clear, but Station or Junction Blocked" Signal ("Warning Arrangement").
As there is a heavy rising gradient towards the West Box it will not be necessary to stop the Up Train at the West Box for the purpose of warning the Engine Driver verbally, but the Signalman must, before lowering the Home Signal, bring the Train almost to a stand and exhibit to the Engine Driver a Green Hand Signal held steadily in the hand, to indicate to him the condition of things which may be expected ahead, when the Home Signal may be lowered to allow the Train to proceed cautiously into the Up Loop. The Engine Driver must acknowledge the Green Hand Signal of the Signalman by giving a short Whistle.
